Valletta, the capital of the island of Malta. A fortified city built by the Knights of St. John. It is registered as a World Heritage site. The interior decoration of St. John's Co-Cathedral and Caravaggio's masterpiece are must-sees. From the Upper Barrakka Gardens, it is a superb viewpoint overlooking Mediterranean cruise ships and the Three Cities on the opposite shore.
Mdina, Malta's former capital. As the flow of people shifted to Valletta after the capital moved, it is called the silent city. The walled town has many narrow alleys and cars are now banned from entering. It can be explored on foot, and there are cafes and restaurants too. Why not explore it together with Rabat, the town outside the fortress walls.
To reach the Blue Grotto, head from Valletta or St. Julian's to the opposite side of the island. If you join the Blue Grotto boat tour, you can approach the caves and rocks in a small boat and see the water surface glittering in bright blue. In bad weather or strong winds, the tour may not run.
From the island of Malta, it's about 25 minutes by ferry to Gozo. A popular island you can visit on a day trip from Malta. The highlights, such as the Citadel of Victoria, the Ġgantija megalithic temples and Dwejra Bay, are far apart, so we recommend a Gozo island tour.
The great Citadel standing on a small hill in Victoria. The honey-colored Malta stone shows off beautifully against the blue sky. The main attraction of the walk is Gozo Cathedral. Be sure to look at the "trompe-l'oeil" painted on the ceiling. The narrow alleys of Malta stone are a superb photo spot.
The Azure Window, a sightseeing landmark on Gozo Island. In photos you can see the arch-shaped rock, but it collapsed in a storm in 2017. At this Dwejra Bay you can admire the beautiful sea, and even after the rock's collapse it remains a popular sightseeing spot where you can enjoy boat tours.
