Places to Visit
Neuschwanstein Castle
Neuschwanstein Castle is a beautiful white old castle standing amid the majestic nature of southern Germany. Inside the castle, where the mysterious life of King Ludwig still breathes, you can view various furniture and furnishings. The view from the Marienbrücke Bridge, built on a sheer cliff, is one of the points where you can see Neuschwanstein Castle most beautifully. Linderhof Castle is the only one completed of the three castles King Ludwig II built.
Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is the world's largest beer festival held in Munich. It is held every year from mid-September to early October. German beer companies set up huge tents and serve their own beer inside. Waiters and waitresses in folk costume carrying several huge beer steins are a must-see. Tent admission tickets are hard to obtain, so if you decide to go, plan early!
Christmas Market
Christmas markets are held throughout Germany during the Advent period, from four weeks before Christmas each year. In Munich, the Christmas market at Marienplatz is the largest. The illuminated Christmas tree is a must-see. Shops with Christmas decorations such as ornaments, and stalls with grilled sausages, sweets, and mulled wine also line up, and the town takes on a festive mood.
German-Bavarian Cuisine
Hearty pork dishes and sausages, with potato and sauerkraut (pickled cabbage) sides, are exquisite. And along with German food, be sure to taste authentic local beer in a large stein! There are many beer halls in the town of Munich, and in summer it is also a pleasure to relax over a beer in a beer garden.
