The Prado Museum, known as one of the world's three great museums, displays the collection of the Spanish royal family. The masterpieces of Velázquez, Goya and El Greco are must-sees. At the Reina Sofía Art Centre, a famous museum on a par with the Prado, you can see Picasso's masterpiece Guernica and Salvador Dalí's works.
A vast palace with over 3000 rooms on an enormous site. Although the royal family no longer lives here, state ceremonies are still held. The grand staircase, the hall of columns and the throne room are magnificent. Works by artists such as Velázquez, Caravaggio and Goya are on display. Long queues form during the tourist season, so advance booking is recommended.
Architect Antoni Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Família church. The 140 m Tower of the Virgin Mary has been erected, and completion is near. The colourful interior that draws in light is a must-see. You can also see Gaudí architecture such as Casa Milà and Casa Batlló all over the city, and simply strolling the streets is enjoyable.
Set on a hilltop, Park Güell features long benches with colourful mosaic patterns and is a superb photo spot with a panoramic view over Barcelona. At Barceloneta, easily reached from the city, you can casually enjoy a resort mood and Mediterranean scenery.
